The 8th Merlinka Festival
International queer film festival Merlinka from December 8 to 14 in “Belgrade Youth Center” will represent 56 films, including nine local films, and is formally opening with Brazilian film "Don’t Call me Son" directed by Anne Muylaert, which won the Teddy Award for Best LGBT featured movie at this year's Berlinale.
Among the films at the 8th Merlinka, whose slogan is "Say eight", a global hit comedy "Absolutely Fabulous" will be screened, that accompanies the fantastic adventures of characters Edina and Patsy from the eponymous British series, along with a documentary "Strike A Pose" about Madonna’s dancing troop which accompanied her during the controversial tour "Blond Ambition" and the documentary "Waiting for B" showing the adventures of a group of young people who are camping for a month and waiting to buy tickets for Beyonce’s concert in Sao Paulo. French film “Theo and Hugo”, awarded at the Berlinale and Film Out Festival in San Diego, is also announced.
A marathon of short films will be held December 11th from 1 PM until midnight, as a part of Merlinka Festival.
Merlinka festival grants annual awards for Best LGBT featured film and docymentary which were screened at festivals in Serbia, and the jury are: Dragan Jovićević - editor of the weekly culture magazine NIN, Zoran Janković – film critic, Đorđe Bajić - film critic and writer, Jelena Vasiljević – Labris activist, and Lazara Marinković – journalist.
The Award for Best Short Film will also be granted based on the decision of the jury consisting of Boban Jevtić - director of the Film Center Serbia, Milena Bogavac - writer and playwright and Kristina Kastelec – initiative “Da se zna” activist.
